Going (to) Rogue

Due to some pretty cold weather in Glacier we're throwing out the plan and heading to Portland (home of Rogue Brewery). At least it (kind of) lasted this long. First though we were going to check out the Grand Tetons. We packed up camp at Yellowstone - Kevin decided that he hates tents after trying to refold his - got one more view of the park as we drove out, and headed to the Tetons. There is one road that runs between them and doesn't connect to anything else, so it was a beautiful drive through a National Forest. We didn't have a map of the Tetons, driving blind, but figured we would make it. Unfortunately due to construction we missed the first visitor center. Still no idea where we were going. After a bit we finally saw the Tetons. Incredible alpine mountains with glaciers surrounded by clouds. You get an incredible view for the entire road through them. The Tetons are a relatively new mountain formation associated with the Rocky mountains. We did a short walk next to a crystal clear lake at the base of the mountain. After that we headed out once more.

The final straw

Our first great view of the Tetons

They really kept stretching on, every time you thought they were ending another peak emerged from the haze.

After consulting our very handy US atlas we decided Boise was our next stop. Mainly because it was the farthest we could fathom driving that day. It was an excellent choice. We stayed at the Safari Inn and had a great room right in the city near the university. Our room overlooked a coffee house/microbrew bar. We rallied and decided to check out the town. For a Wednesday night there was a pretty active night life and we ended up at the Bitter Root Brew Pub for dinner. Knew there was a good chance of it being good from all of the people there, but little did we realize what we were in for. Exposed brick, huge lighted signs, raw iron lights - and that was just the building. The food was everything you could hope for at a funky, urban brew pub. Everything had a unique twist and there was a great local beer selection. Both of us were extremely happy and well recovered from the road after such a great meal.

Agreed!

Sweet potato and black bean burger with spicy aoli, sauteed peppers and onions, pickles, and an incredible bun.

Perfection.

Kevin actually ate this (minus the perfect yellow tomatoes)

Yes, I became one of those people who take pictures of food.
