Farm Day

Saturday was farm day (I know - isn't everyday farm day when you live on a farm?). Home school groups and families come to tour the farm for the afternoon and learn about what we do here. We take them to each of the animals and tell them a little about what their purpose is on the farm and about their life cycles. We had 5 families come with kids ranging from babies to young teens. The favorite animals are generally the puppies and the littlest goats, but this time the alpacas were a HUGE hit with one of the kids. He got so excited from the moment he heard we had them and was racing around trying to get to them. The bucks, strangely enough, were also really popular. I could understand really liking them in the spring or summer, but they're pretty smelly still. We warned everyone, but the kids didn't care. Hope the parents didn't mind too much. During the tour we let them try to milk the goats. The kids weren't too good at this. I don't think any of them were able to but some of the parents got it.

Unique - she's pregnant and by far our fattest goat

Bethany wanted a lot of attention while I was talking on the phone

Rock Salt

Garnet Too ( no idea what the too is about)

Three of the families were actually interested in getting goats and were asking a ton of questions about goat care. They seemed pretty serious about it and were checking out our little goats. One family wanted a dog as well. They reserved one of our little boys. As far as I know that's the only one claimed so far but I'm sure they'll go soon.

At the end of the tour they get to try milk and cheese that we make. I made the cheese this time and got help with the flavorings. We made garlic and chives, raspberry with honey, and a plain cheese. My favorite by far was the garlic and chives. They went over pretty well with the parents. We can't sell cheese because we aren't certified to, but we do sell cheese kits so they can make their own.

My cabin!

Zucchini from the neighbor. Huge - longer and fatter than my arm - but the skin is ridiculously hard
